Literally a Hair Salon in your pocket!
Available on the iPod Touch, iPad or iPhone! (also available on Android and Kindle Fire devices!)
Fun, easy to use App to enhance various learning and social opportunities, sequencing tasks, language, stimulating ideas for written output and much more.
Parents, teachers SLPs and AT Specialists:) love this App series to engage students, enhance expressive language opportunities and much more.
Great for young students, students on IPPs with expressive language difficulties, an interest in hairdressing, developing social skills (complete a hair design in pairs!)...the learning opportunities are only limited to your imagination
Integration ideas:
1) capture a picture at every stage of the hair design from washing, colouring, cutting to blow drying! Have the student import the pictures into Book Creator and develop a story with audio recording, image import and text (when appropriate) to write a sequences story about getting a haircut. Add exciting twists to the story by having the student write about a "What if" storyline (the disastrous haircut) with pictures!
2) with 6 characters to choose from create their hair designs, capture their image in the photo library then write a story in Book Creator, Pages, Keynote or other writing App about where the characters could go with their new haircut (a party, job, school etc), what could happen next...
3) use the same sequence of pictures captured above and import into Pic Collage. Have the students put the sequence of the hair cut or design in the proper order in Pic Collage then compare, discuss, verbalize and write about the result in various Apps offering voice recording, Dictation (if appropriate for the student) and publishing
4) foster language, communication and social skills by having 2 students (or student groups) designing a hair style, project on the whiteboard from 2 or 3 different iPads using Airserver software. Tie in key vocabulary and descriptive words to the process (i.e. short, long, curly, straight, pink, purple!) . Make the pictures into an Opposites activity in Pic Collage (long vs short), match the opposite or Show Me activity.
5) use as a transition and/or calming activity
6) use for fun learning
