ALWAYS FREE! Our most dynamic & versatile FREE APP! Pic Collage

Pic Collage App:  Always FREE!

One of our most favourite Apps for education.  This App's use and application is only limited to your imagination!  Tremendous for classroom teachers, resource teachers, teacher assistants, SLPs, OTs, AT Specialists designing activities for any student.

Integrations Ideas:
1) Develop a Tic Tac Toe language game with familiar images.  Play with therapist or friend.  Choose two different stamps to move to a certain square or choose a letter and a checkmark.  Ask the student to give the beginning sound of the picture before placing their stamp on the picture of choice; name the pet; verbalize a sentence with the name of the pet in the sentence. Fun, easy and free.   Thanks Karen Friskney!

2) Habitat curriculum activity:  Offer the student 3 images of different habitats and have the student search for animals from within Pic Collage that live in those habitats, import the pics to pic collage then drag to place the animals in their appropriate location.  For students with higher needs offer the pictures of the animals, bank them to the right of the images of the habitat and then have the student drag the pics over.  Email out to teacher.

Healthy Breakfast activity:  follow the simple directions in this great Pic Collage activity

From the pictures offered sort the pics into 3 different healthy breakfasts!

Enrichment: from within Pic Collage search the web and find for other pictures of various food items that could make up another healthy breakfast

Studying thermometers?

Offer the student an image of a thermometer and have students search the web for images of places, items (i.e. boiling pot) that match to a specific temperature on the thermometer!

For students with higher needs: offer an image of a thermometer and group the images relating to different temperatures on the bottom (5-6 images) and ask students to just drag the right image to the temperature on the thermometer.  Email out to teacher.  Regroup the images at the bottom of the Pic Collage and reuse with newly added images with the next student or for assessment.

Fractions:  Have students take images of various objects or group objects around the room.  Import the images into Pic Collage and use the text input option to indicate their knowledge of fractions.  Simple and fun.  Way more engaging than a worksheet!  Also - you could make a collage of the fraction collages produced!   Email out to teacher.

Visual Calm Down Station on the iPad:
1) Develop a visual of the process of calming down options for students.  Store on the student's iPad.

2) Have the student develop a calm down routine Pic Collage.  Email out to teacher, print, share, store

Visual Scheduler
This is an amazing App to use as a visual scheduler.  Quickly and easily take a photo of a teacher, subject book, classroom etc. and import into Pic Collage.  Group the images on one side of the collage.  Import a number of checkmarks (in one search from within Pic Collage).  Each day discuss with the student what is on the schedule, have THEM drag the image representing the task to the right of the page so they are planning their day.

When the task is completed use the checkmarks by dragging them up to the completed task.  Email out to teacher, parent, store in the photo library for to use in another App like Book Creator or even in another Pic Collage to track their week!  Store the Pic Collage to use the next day.  Easy, fun and engaging!

Labelling in Science, Geography...
For students with physical disabilities who can't label on the handout, for students with cognitive difficulties or students with LD who have difficulties writing the labels.  In Pic Collage import the picture from the web or take a picture of the sheet to be labelled.  Develop a bank of words using the import text option.  Simply have the student drag the label to the appropriate part of the image.

Alternate: have the student type in the labels.  Note: this option is able to offer text to speech when the text label is double tapped and you enter into the text box option, select the text and Speak (with Speak Selection set in Accessibility Options).

Sorting Colours for Functional Skill Development Activity:

Have students sort the laundry!
Email out to teacher.
Store in Photo library, use in another App

Option: for higher needs students offer a visual (not just text) for sorting colour i.e. white and a colour wheel for colour bin)

Sequencing a Story with Visuals:
For students who have difficulties with written output, to enhance engagement of young readers, to gauge retention and comprehension...

Import any graphic organizer from the web or take a picture of the handout of the graphic organizers.  Import pictures from the story being read, take a screen shot of the pages on the iPad or take a picture of the book's pictures (or have the student do this!).  Collect the image at the bottom of the page and have the student put the story back together in order.

Enrichment: have the student take another picture to change the ending.  He/she could perhaps draw a picture of a different ending, take a photo of that image from within Pic Collage and import it into the collage.  Share

Visual Calendar:  Import any calendar from the web or take a picture of a favourite calendar of the month or week.  Student will take pictures throughout the week of his/her highlighted events and import them into the calendar.  Save to the photo album to use in Book Creator.  Use as a visual cue to write a diary or simply use as a visual diary.  In Book Creator the student could record their voice or write about events (depending on his/her strengths).
